In 2013, Arlyn (Soriano) and Ace (Victor Aceron) met during their internship with the Outreach Division (she with Education Outreach, he with United Nations Academic Impact) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York as part of the completion of their Master's studies. Both flew to the Big Apple to do the internship - at the time, Arlyn was studying in the United Kingdom, and Ace in South Korea. Their game plan was straight: to graduate from their universities and get a grade of "A" for their internship. Dedicated and hard-working, the UN couple graduated with flying colours, and got their "A’s", but more than the winning grade, it was an "A" for Arlyn and “A” for Ace.

A love story blossomed from team work - a good partnership that started from writing reports together and assisting in education outreach events. Ace and Arlyn recall the fun and challenges drafting over a hundred activity reports in the span of three months, ushering guests to conference rooms during UN-hosted events and preparing programme materials – all of which set a beautiful plot for a romantic chapter in their lives. Through daily lunches and after-work conversations, their friendship developed, and in the many times they got lost exploring New York City, they only found themselves circling into each other’s love and care.

On 21 August 2017 – on the same month and day they first met in 2013, Ace proposed to Arlyn during a tour at the UN General Assembly Hall. “Where all of the world’s mighty stand and state, I knelt and promised,” Ace shared.

Ace, currently an Education Officer at UNICEF Philippines, and Arlyn, a Reports Officer at the WFP Regional Bureau in Egypt, continue to build a career in the United Nations. More than being the backdrop of their love story, New York and the United Nations inspire both to believe in the power of their dreams, work hard and serve the world – together and in love.
